Trash and Recycle

Trash should be placed out by 6:00 a.m. on your assigned trash day, Thursday or Friday.

Penn Waste observes Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Those holidays will result in your pickup being delayed by one day that week.

The maximum weekly pickup is six "bags" of trash. Each cannot exceed 30 gallons or 60 pounds.

You may purchase extra bags at the Shrewsbury Township office for $3.50 each. You can use the bags for grass clippings also.

Recycling bins are provided by the township and should be placed curbside with your trash and large item no later than 6:00 a.m. on your collection day. Click here for a list of acceptable items.

Bulky collection now comes every week, limited to one item per pickup.
Click here for a list of acceptable items.

Grass clippings are no longer accepted and will not be picked up. This saved our taxpayers a lot of money and we hope you will understand. Learn all about composting. Click here.

Recycle Your Clothes and Shoes at Our
Public Recycle Drop-Off Area

The York County Solid Waste Authority’s public recycle drop-off area now contains a Salvation Army collection bin for clothing and shoes.  The recycle drop-off area is located across from the Resource Recovery Center on Blackbridge Road, Manchester Township and is open seven days a week during daylight hours.

Only clean clothing and shoes are to be placed in the Salvation Army bin.  Residents who have furniture, appliances or other large items for the Salvation Army need to contact the Salvation Army at 1-800-95-TRUCK.  Other items accepted at the recycle drop-off area include: aluminum, steel, and bi-metal cans; any color glass; plastic bottles, containers and jugs; newsprint and cardboard.

Used motor oil.
It's always a challenge to dispose of your used motor oil properly.
White's Garage, on the Trail just north of Shrewsbury Borough will take your used oil. So will the Shrewsbury True Value on SR851 east of I-83
and the Wal*Mart at Exit One..

Does anyone know of other drop-off points in the area?

West Nile Virus, mosquitoes AND YOU!

YOU can help!!
Please click here.

We all need emergency services and emergency services need us.

Shrewsbury Township does not have its own fire department or
emergency medical (ambulance) service. Private, volunteer companies provide these services from locations in Shrewsbury, Glen Rock and New Freedom.

The township provides them yearly donations from your taxes but... We urge all Shrewsbury Township residents to support these local organization during their fundraising activities throughout each year.

These organizations are also in need of volunteers to provide ambulance and fire-fighting services. If being an emergency volunteer is not possible, then please consider volunteering to help in community outreach and fundraising activities. High school students are also welcome, and you will get all the training you need. Contact the organization of your choice today.

This year, once again, the township joins with York County to identify breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The bulky pickup would be a good time to dispose of tires and other items that hold water in which mosquitoes can breed. If that is not possible, then make sure all such vessels are periodically emptied, at least every six days.
