Mosquito Checklist
Is your home a breeding area for mosquitoes?
Use this checklist to find out.
Do you . . .
____ Turn over plastic wading pools or sandboxes when not in use?
____ Turn over wheelbarrows?
____ Dispose of tin cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots, or similar
water-holding containers?
(Don't overlook containers that
might be hidden by vegetation.)
____ Dispose of old tires around your home or neighborhood?
____ Clean and chlorinate swimming pools that are not being used?
(Do not allow water to collect
on the cover.)
____ Drill holes in the bottom of all containers that are left outside?
____ Remove water that collects in tarps covering woodpiles, boats, etc?
____ Keep roof gutters clean and dry?
(Clogged roof gutters can
produce millions of mosquitoes each year.)
____ Make sure your pond or water garden has fish in it, or is aerated, or you
keep "Mosquito Dunk" (Bti) in
it?
Score: 8 or more checkmarks = excellent! Keep up the good work.
5 to 7 checkmarks =
Good. Keep looking for those breeding sites.
Less than 5
checkmarks = Need to get the mosquito patrol to work!

Thanks to Penn State for our information.
